What to do if oil sludge is so bad engine lacks oil pressure and is starting to rattle and make noise or oil pressure light is on. In extreme cases where sludge is so bad it is starving engine from oil and is restricting the oil pick up you have 2 choices. Spend hundreds or most likely thousands of dollars and remove the oil pan, clean it manually, replace pick up tube and oil pump or.. Drain all the oil out of the vehicle and install either a gallon of lacquer thinner or mineral spirits. Let it sit overnight then drain it out. Run at least one quart of oil through engine and let it drain out bottom. Then change oil like you would do normally. Test drive it and see if oil pressure is back to normal. I hope this helps everyone and clears up some myths and helps you make the correct repair decision. Because many shops do not take this course of action resulting in very expensive repairs and vehicles being junked out when they may have been able to be fixed for a much cheaper cost. However you can save yourself all this headache just by using the correct oil in your vehicle, educate yourself and remember you always get what you pay for. Cheap oil saves you money now but cost you thousands of dollars later. As these cars become more and more sophisticated and expensive it is critical you find an auto repair shop who will take care of you and repair your vehicle with the correct parts and fluids. These oil change places can not do this for you and are a cheap alternative that will cost you in the long run.
