What to do when you see an Emergency Vehicle approaching This may seem like common sense to some, but when dealing with emergency situations we commonly see drivers panic and over-react or react incorrectly when they see an Emergency Vehicle approaching them. Here are some rules to remember: 1. You must yield the right of way 2. Drive to the far right edge of the curb 3. Clear the intersection 4. You must STOP! When you see an emergency vehicle approaching, (if possible) pull your vehicle to the far right side of the roadway. If you can’t pull right then leave room for the emergency vehicle to get by. If you are already stopped, stay put! Once the emergency vehicle has passed, be sure to re-enter the travel lane with caution. Always keep the intersection clear because you don’t know which way the emergency vehicle will have to go. As curious as you may be, do not follow an emergency vehicle leaving a scene. Finally if you come to an intersection blocked by emergency vehicles, slow down! Watch for directions given by police personnel on the scene and proceed as directed.
