What to see in cavtat? The birth house of Vlaho Bukovac The birth house of one of the most famous Croatian painters was proclaimed a cultural monument in 1969. The architecture, the fact that it is located in the very heart of Cavtat as well as the artistic legacy of the painter make this house a true cultural pearl. The appearance of the house is not much different than the rest of the houses built in Cavtat towards the end of the 18th and beginning of the 19th century, even though the painter himself made a few touch-ups. The Racic Family Mausoleum By visiting the mausoleum of the famous Racic family, a well-known shipowning family, you will witness the symbolism which represents the lifetime of humans: birth, life and death. The entire mausoleum is built using Brac white stone (from the island of Brac) except for the door and the bell which are made of bronze. The mausoleum is situated such that it is a nice detail between the sea and the cypress trees, and it was made by the famous Croatian sculptor Ivan Mestrovic. Knezev dvor -The Collection of Baltazar Bogisic Baltazar Bogisic (1834-1908) was a lawyer and scientist with a significant European reputation, and throughout his career, he collected various artifacts and documents and files. Today the Collection contains more than 35,000 objects. The numismatic collection particularly stands out with 2,700 objects. There is also an extensive library dating back to that period and is considered as being one of the most valuable monument libraries in Croatia. Bogisic’s collection is located at Knezev dvor in Cavtat. Franciscan Monastery The monastery is located in the village of Pridvorje, in the central part of Konavle. In the lowlands, a Renaissance, or to be more specific, an early Renaissance monastery was built. Since there were many pilgrimages to this particular monastery, it has a rich collection of alms, the most beautiful of which is the Pridvorje crucifix, made out of wood. to top
