What was done to the Indians, Mexicans and blacks was shameful. Thank goodness Americans now realize it, not that our shameful acts against others has ended. But did you know : (1) The Constitution recognized the native American Sovereignty within our own borders? It set aside land for them to own and govern without U.S. interference. (Article I, Section 2, Clause 3 & Article I, Section 8). When gold was discovered on their land, the Constitution was totally ignored (2) The Constitution was written so as to put an end to slavery in 1808. (Article One Section 9). George Mason, said: [Slavery is a] slow Poison, which is daily contaminating the Minds & Morals of our People. Every Gentleman here is born a petty Tyrant…. And in such an infernal School are to be educated our future Legislators & Rulers. Some of our Founding fathers participated in the underground railroad to free slaves. Not all States were slave states. Joseph Hayne Rainey, a black man, served in the House Of Representatives from 1870–1879. He was a Republican representing his State of South Carolina. In fact we had several black representatives, and revolutionary heroes. · Between 1775 and 1807, the state constitution Of New Jersey permitted all persons worth over fifty pounds to vote. Free blacks and single women were technically enfranchised under this provision. In 1870 the 15th Amendment was passed that gave former slaves the right to vote. But again, when it behooves Americans, they ignore the Constitution. The Constitution, which recognizes that all people are created equal, and endowed with inalienable rights, created the most prosperous and successful middle class the world has ever known. Martin Luther King revealed in his I Have A Dream Speech in which he says the following: In a sense weve come to our nations capital to cash a check. When the architects of our republic wrote the magnificent words of the Constitution and the Declaration of Independence, they were signing a promissory note to which every American was to fall heir. This note was a promise that all men - yes, black men as well as white men - would be guaranteed the unalienable rights of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness... America has given the Negro people a bad check, a check which has come back marked insufficient funds. The Constitution was not perfect, but its application by special interests has been the real disgrace. Had we followed the Constitution, we would have avoided many wrongs. youtube/watch?v=smEqnnklfYs
