What was the name of the bar near Davis Studio? I remember walking by the tavern as a little boy with my father around mid-day. It was in the summer and the door was open. I asked my father, Why is it so dark inside? He replied, They think God wont see them sin. He was quick on his feet! Was that Jims Tavern? We used to go out on tavern patrol when my dad was supervisor at the cottage cheese company. What he was looking for was Michigan Cottage Cheese trucks! Usually some of the best of the hot spots to catch the drivers was the Plainwell V.F.W. I remember one night, one of the drivers staggered out to his cheese truck and started out on his run north on old U.S. 131 (This was before the 131 Expressway) When he got to the rail crossing at the Warren Barber Boat Sales, well, apparently he saw two trains and figured he would go between them! Dad got the call and we rushed to the scene. Looking west down the tracks all you could see was cottage cheese, potato salad and baked beans for half a mile. I dont remember if the driver was hurt . . . . but I think not.
