What we really have to underscore here is that there is no where - TopicsExpress

What we really have to underscore here is that there is no where in the world where elections can be rated as 100% free, fair and credible. If the All Progressive Congress Party,APC decides to question the credibility of the outcome of the Ekiti gubernatorial poll at the election tribunal in spite of its flagbearer conceded defeat, it shows the partys bullish approach towards the tribunal prospects of dispensing appropriate and wholesome verdict on the matter. So nobody should criticise the partys decision to challenge the result of the poll.Their action is still within the confines of the electoral law so long as there are substantial evidences to present at the election tribunal. There is every trace of suspicious moves that could make one suggest otherwise....what if the ruling party PDP had been at the helms of affair, would the Federal Government of Nigeria have drafted such a huge number of security personnel to the state? Well i guess that should be a matter for another day.But for now let us relish some of the landmarks that actually trailed the election. The Independent National Electoral Commission has performed creditably well though, there are few skirmishes recorded in the election. For instance, the reported case that involve the transporting of INECs sensitive materials out of the state at such a crucial moment had left so many questions on the lips of those who could sense the anomaly thereby casting doubts about the overall credibility of the poll. This is absolutely unprofessional of the state electoral commission.Although we were later told that the seized election materials by men of the security force were just waste materials from previous elections a fact that was corroborated by the state resident-commissioner.Disposing of election materials ought to be done aftermath the end of every court litigation....I just wonder why those waste materials werent disposed a year prior to the election. At least the state independent electoral commission has got luxury of time to carry out such a process. This is one of the grey areas where Professor Attahiru Jega needs to take cogent measures with a view to wading off electoral fraudsters and unscrupulous politicians from hijacking the whole electoral process.INEC must continue to work vehemently in order to clog up every traceable error at the just concluded gubernatorial poll in Ekiti state;more so in the wake of the impending Osun state governorship election which is slated for August 9 and more importantly, the fast approaching 2015 general election in the country.INEC has no excuse not to conduct itself brilliantly well in the general election.INEC is condemned to make history! Therefore, the near historic feat recorded in Ekiti state should be a stepping stone to greater height for the chairman and his entire staff members across the federation. The Nigerian political establishment should break away from their conventional and illicit ways of practising polity. The salient fact remains:nation building requires the collective responsibility of every political class no matter the side of the divide one belongs to-opposition or ruling party,left-wing or right-wing as the case may.We all have a huge beautify task to play actively in the development of every sector of the economy. So Dr Fayemis uncommon conceded defeat should be a life-time standard for all our politicians.Elections should not be viewed as do-or-die affair. What should be of paramount importance is how to take the country to that summit and enviable height of development.Dr Fayemi recognises that by living above board. The interest of the people of Ekiti state became non-negoitable to him, hence the need to jettisone selfish-interest and greed.Election is just like the game of football, when you lose, you must take it in good faith.Thats the spirit of sportsmanship! Finally, there is the need for a smooth transition that entails accountability, transparency and probity. This shouldnt generate any potential hiccups between the outgoing governor and the newly elected-governor Mr Ayodele Fayose. It might sound too premature to start trading words after both sides have displayed a high level maturity and expressed their strong optimism of moving the state forward despite their political differences. If the report of the creation of more local governments by the outgoing administration is anything to by,i would say that this is simply despicable and an act of vengeance by Dr Fayemi.Such move could only portray him being hypocrite.
