What world leader sleeps in an austere single bed in a dorm room at a police academy, leaving his wife and children elsewhere, has been in office for 18 months without even a grace period of popular assent, has actually gone backwards in support, even from his most ardent pre-poll cheer squad, has no positive successes to claim, only some pointless and damaging negations - stopping boats and axing taxes that were actually working, has no real connection with whatever it is his ministers have done, actually eschews any interest in economics or the economy, has seen the economy lurch alarmingly towards recession, hasnt been able to get his - or rather, someone elses - budget passed, lacks any finesse or persuasive skills of negotiation or compromise, has an international reputation for blundering and bewildering gaffe prone language, has a suspect set of rumours floating around his campaign funding amidst consistent examples of rorts and expenses scandals among his senior ministers, is probably Australian, but cant shake the rumour and suspicion he is not a citizen, has broken promise after promise and told lie after lie, and continues to lie about having lied, has inspired serious hints by utterly unworthy pretenders sniffing around the glass case where the back-stabbing knives are kept, whispering about a leadership challenge? I just had to write it all down, in case it seemed too insane, too much like cheap fiction, or a bad dream, to be true. But there it is. I pinched myself, and its all real.
