What would be absolutely incredible is if we could develop this type of nuclear fusion into a small, contained, form of energy with a fail safe to prevent any sort of mini meltdown or explosion. We could use it as the perfect form of sustainable clean energy. In vehicles, to power homes, etc. I feel we are getting to that point. I mean we already learned how to harness this power on a larger scale...power plants, despite what people think, Are an extremely cheap, efficient, and clean source of power. Provided we keep our facilities up to date and inspected to prevent a meltdown. The plants are built to withstand earthquakes, tornados, plane crashes, etc. Issues with the power plants are that they use uranium in a process called fission to heat water particles to create steam to power turbines that create electricity. Uranium, I NOT a renewable resource. The act of mining, enriching and transporting the uranium is where the waste comes into play, or in disposing or the spent uranium that happens every 18-24 months. This is strictly regulated and stored. Enrichment of uranium ore into fuel and the operation of nuclear power plants generate wastes that contain low-levels of radioactivity. These wastes are shipped to a few specially designed and licensed disposal sites. It would be awesome if we could develop nuclear power with out the use of uranium and with something more sustainable.
