What would happen if in the media we started depicting black people as proper leads. You know not just the funny sassy friend. What if they were depicted as the problem solver, the hero, a coming of age story where they arent battling an environment filled with broken dreams or a broken home. Where the main character aspires more than to be a rapper or a gang member or just getting high and partying. Why must the roles we star in show our subservience or violent nature. Why cant we show black people that are genuinely happy. If art imitates life then it is definitely time for a change. If life imitates art then all the more reasons to show ourselves in a more positive light. I dont mean to exclude other races that are grossly misrepresented, but this only a simple musing of mine.
