What would we do with out cell phones. Talk to each other, have engaging conversation, learn new things about the person sitting next to you, probably your husband or wife. I went to dinner tonight, by my self. As I waited for my food, I observed other tables and what they were doing. Two couples at the table next to me, both late 40 early 50s. One guys wife talked to the other guys wife and the 2 guys just sat there. She pontificated for about an hour about her job as the 3 others sat and tried to act interested. 4 high school girls came in and sat across from me, with in seconds of sitting down , cell phones came out, and a photo session ensued a midst copious amounts of mind numbing giggling and, non stop talking and texting. A young couple seated a table down. She was intently texting and he sat with a picture full of margaritas drinking him self into oblivion. An older couple maybe 70 or so sat peacefully, hed say something shed smile and hed lightly pat her hands that were folded graceful on the table. Shed say something and smile broadly, and hed laugh shake his head with out moving his hand from hers or losing his fixed gaze into her eyes. The TV was showing football, music played, the din of the room swelled, and this man so enamored with this woman hung on every word she said. Mean while the picture of margaritas slowly disappeared, while the flurry of fingers texted, the woman continued to pontificate using the word like as frequently as a teenager, and the teenagers, they yammered on about the things teenage girls talk about, cell phones in hand. The rain continued to fall outside and people on the street scurried along the sidewalk texting, or engaged in a conversation on the phone while their partner walked along in silence.
