What would you call an action by a president and colleagues that was ramrodded through congress and that action would threaten the economic livelihood of a sizeable portion of states and population? This action would cause dissention that would keep a cleaver dividing peoples beliefs for years and yet a president did it anyway. Abraham Lincoln called it the 13th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. Today in 1995, Mississippi became the last state to ratify that amendment - 130 years after the first Republican president pushed his agenda on a lot of unwilling Americans.
