Especially now after the Xmas and New years break, most people will have gained a few pounds here and there so this is for you. Think about it, You’ve been asleep for a number of hours, and your blood sugar levels are low, as is insulin (a hormone released when you eat carbs, and acts as a “storing” hormone) When you wake up if you go and eat a high carb/sugar breakfast like cereal, a savoury breakfast, a juiced meal, Or toast with Jam youll find these foods will give you a hit of energy, but all the above foods will spike your blood sugar levels and therefore release insulin, so instead of burning fat and spiking your metabolism you end up storing fat. Also, you’ll find the foods aren’t very filling, fibrous or nutrient rich, so give it an hour or so, and you’ll likely be hungry again due to lack of quality nutrients. Queue the inevitable energy slump and Caffeine Hit! A little fact that people dont really know, Carbs help your body produce melatonin which is a hormone which can aid sleep! You dont want this 1st thing in the morning!!!!!!!!!!!! Go for higher protein options like eggs, Greek yoghurt with some berries and nuts, a Steak, maybe even protein pancakes, theres tons of recipes online. In simple terms, Protein releases Glucagon which is slower release and will keep you fuller for longer.
