Whatever qualities or attributes God possesses that we humans do not we are not able to perceive - we do not have the concepts or the language to express them. So many regard spirituality as simply otherness - it describes, in their view, that which cannot be expressed by what is regarded as normal humanness. So it becomes a container into which we could place anything. It turns into abject mysticism; an attempt to describe the undescribable. We can make it mean whatever we want it to. And therefore, it can never be shown to be false. Whereas Biblical spirituality is to do with our relationship with God - that and that alone. And we have no right to make it anything else. Spirituality must never become some extra-human dimension which is added to us when we become Christians, separate from the world we live in and never in contact with it. God is spirit, yes - but He is also as intimately involved with and concerned with physical reality and existence. And it is all tied together - it is one story, not two. These are seed thoughts in my mind currently. I would be grateful for others comments.
