Whatever way you choose to look at this, whether you believe Martin Mc Guinness to be an Irish republican, or not, our country is still occupied and Elizabeth Windsor is still Commander in chief of the imperialist forces who occupy our country. I feel that the decision to accept such an invitation is both premature and insensitive. It is premature to dine with the head of the British war machine while Britain continues to occupy the North of our country.I feel that it is insensitive to those among us who have lost loved ones, to those who have suffered, or continue to suffer as a result of the occupation. Today, injustice continues in Ireland as a result of this occupation. Our peoples homes are raided constantly, our people are still being brutalized and gaoled as a result of the ongoing occupation. Internment is alive and well, many people are afraid to speak out in fear that they could be demonized as war mongering dissidents and end up in a gaol. We are still subjected to sectarian parades and policed by a pro unionist paramilitary force. While I appreciate the need to build better relations etc I feel that the time for doing so could only come about when Britain finally announces its intention to withdraw from Ireland and end the longest occupation in world history. When they remove their military might from Ireland, then and only then can we truly begin to build better relations .....
