Whatkind of memoris our children will have? One of my first - TopicsExpress

Whatkind of memoris our children will have? One of my first memories, and it is vivid as if it was yesterday, is when I was 3 years old. I remember being in the arms by someone I do not recognize, hurrying to find shelter at a local bomb shelter. I still remember the bricks in the hallway, when we stepped in together with many more children, while the siren is blowing in our ears. I also remember another neighbor, who served in reserve army unit, coming up to our apartment on the third floor, metal helmet from the second world war on his head, urging us to go downstairs to the ground floor, since we did not have a shelter in our house and that was the safest place in our neighborhood. The shelter was two blocks away. These memories came back to me now, 58 years later, when I carried my 4 year old daughter to the shelter three floors down from our apartment. I am not bothered by the rockets, and I feel assured that the virtual Iron Dome will fend them. I fear that these will be the traumatic memories my three children will have and so will all the children from the new generation. We failed to build a secure environment, we failed to ensure their safety, and we have built better shelters, as if we conform with the idea that we will be attacked from time to time by those who want to kick us out from our homeland and make it their own. The people of Gaza could have made their strip of beautiful beach an equal to the French Riviera, but they aimed to kill us first, demanding the whole country for themselves. As a student at Tel Aviv University, one of my classmates was an Arab who became a good friend. He was such a good friend that one day he gave me a personal advice: Leave the country, because one day we will kill all of you. That was encouraging. The hatred being nurtured in the Arab schools ensures that the conflict will end in violence. We love our children and protect them. I do not want them to grow up in a country where they will still build bomb shelters 40 years from now.
