Whats On Your Mind? For starters: There are homeless people all over America. There are hungry people all over America. They are not only in big cities, they are in small towns and even in small villages across the United States. Pretending they dont exist is not going to make them not exist, nor solve the on going problem. There are people tearing down and making any means of making shelter impossible for the homeless. Then there are people who are feeding them (the homeless & hungry) getting arrested. There are people doing the arresting. There are people making it illegal to help them, feed them and or give them a simple help up - even in the moment. There are homeless shelters over full and closing. Shipping them elsewhere does not mean they dont exist. There are sick people here who seem to fall through the cracks of getting any form of help in having their illness(es) corrected or cured or treated. There are soup kitchens that are closing or closed. There are food pantries that are running low on food with near empty shelves. There are people struggling to make it through the work week; Living week to week and month to month. There are people right here in Michigan battling Whooping Cough! There are Public and Private Schools operating in the red and some even closing, including Charter Schools. Some using books that are 10 years old or no books and or no ipads or calculators or enough computers for every student. There are schools that tell children they owe on their food accounts taking the food away and throwing the meal away in front of the children and then giving them a substitute lunch and some not even that. There are children going hungry here in America. There are people struggling to make ends meet. Juggling the idea of whether to pay the rent/mortgage or a utility bill or buy groceries for the next couple days; Here in America. There are people here in Michigan (Detroit) that are going without water- Going without running water in their homes! In my neighborhood, if someone falls behind their water bill by $100 they will turn off the water. There are people here in America that can not go to college because they are told they make too much and do not qualify for college grants and loans because they are NOT Black/African American/of Color and do not qualify for assistance such as food stamps etc because they are White/Cracker/Yankee. There are people looking for ways to make needs meet here in America. There are Senior Citizens going without food and medications, living on fixed incomes, trying to figure out if they can pay their bills and they are stuck home bound and alone- Here in America. There are children here in America who need braces and cant get them because Medicaid considers it cosmetic and does not cover cosmetic corrections. . . I could continue Whats on my mind? STOP asking me help other countries in need of the same dang things that our own neighbors are in need of. STOP telling me that if an American is not rich and doing well then it is because they are lazy and are looking for a hand out.
