Whats in a name? Kid Solvent Back in about 1991 I worked in the manufacturing sector as a tool operator at a semiconductor plant. I had the pleasure of working alongside some creative people who, like me, sold out a portion of their creative potential for a few good years of great benefits and a steady check that required no marketable skills beyond the ability to stay awake for 13 hours at a time. One of those creative individuals was a fella named Pedro. Pedro was a musician who attempted to teach me how to play guitar in our off hours. We enjoyed some laughs and a lot of conversation about music, microchips, and the future. We spend a little too much time thinking up humorous names for the rock band of our dreams. My favorite one (that Pedro came up with) was created while we performed the task of cleaning the gunk off one of my machines with acetone. Hey, said Pedro, How about: Kid Solvent and the Acetones? I laughed my ass off. It was so perfect, and so funny, and in the middle of the night in the bright bowels of a depressing factory, it was the best thing I ever heard. As soon as I stopped laughing, I composed myself and with a snipers focus I looked him in the eyes and told him I was going to use that name if I ever got a band. He told me I could have it. Nothing ever came of my music career, but when I started painting miniatures I saw the humorous connection between the name, and the substances (solvents) I use so often to fix the mistakes I create at my work station. Hence: Kid Solvent as opposed to Boy Wonder, or Little Lord Fauntleroy. By the way, its common knowledge that Simple Green or Pine Sol are the easiest and cheapest ways to strip horribly painted miniatures.
