Whats interesting is that starting salaries for data analysts in India are around 370,000 rupees to 460,000 rupees, or $6,000 to $7,300. If I had to guess, Id say thats why outsourcing to India is going to remain a popular choice for budget-conscious organizations in the US. The infographic below shows that demand is rising specifically for job titles like Hadoop architects and administrators who know how to design and manage the clusters and infrastructure; Hadoop developers who can write the scripts that communicate with databases; and data scientists who bring analytics and modeling expertise to the table. Here, too, the median salaries for experienced architects and software development engineers top out around $27,000 to $30,000, which is less than half the amount that foreign workers are pulling down when employed in the US. Another interesting factoid: Internet and tech giants like Amazon, eBay, Google, Microsoft, and Yahoo are the companies most interested in recruiting Hadoop-skilled employees. I anticipate this balance will shift as large enterprises build out their Hadoop infrastructures, and as managed Hadoop-as-a-service offerings mature.
