Whats on my mind, Facebook? None of your business, actually, but, since you asked, I thought Id start flooding my Facebook page with art, literature, music, history and current events, just for something to do. Is that okay with you? Ill start with a mix of art, history and music, with King Crimsons The Night Watch, a musical interpretation of Rembrandts painting, originally titled The Company of captain Frans Banning Cocq and lieutenant Willem van Ruytenburch preparing to march out, later renamed the much snappier The Night Watch. The painting itself is enormous, being about 14 feet long. Not many people today would have the wall space to hang something like that in their living room, although no doubt it would look pretty impressive over the TV. The song The Night Watch is from King Crimsons album Starless and Bible Black, the name of which was taken from the opening lines from Dylan Thomass 1954 radio play, Under Milk Wood: It is spring, moonless night in the small town, starless and bible-black, the cobbledstreets silent and the hunched courters-and-rabbits wood limping invisible down to the sloeblack, slow, black, crowblack, fishingboat-bobbing sea. As an aside, Jimi Hendrix thought King Crimson was the best rock band in the world. As another aside, Bob Dylan, who was born Robert Zimmerman, changed his last name to Dylan because he was crazy about Dylan Thomass poetry.
