Whats on my mind, it asks. Well, I just saw a news report about the awful shooting at a high school in Marysville, WA. As usual, they show photos and publish the name of the one who did the shooting. This is par for the course. Identify the perpetrator for the public to see. Personally, I believe its a bad idea to do that. Im not saying we shouldnt know it happened. Why do we have to know WHO did it? There are those who, seeing such reports, will decide they also want to go down in history with people knowing their face/name. You know, copy cats. It doesnt matter to them if theyd be hurting/scaring/killing people in the process, just as long as their name gets out there. Most people wont do that, of course, but there are others who like the thought of going out in a blaze and getting some kind of glory. If news reports kept the identity of the perpetrator confidential, perhaps fewer people with warped thinking such as this would decide to go ahead and do it. Does anyone else share this viewpoint, or am I alone?
