Whats on my mind tonight? Okay, deep thoughts and pop quiz.... I went for a short evening walk in the crisp autumn air of the streets of Oxford tonight. And while doing that I passed some folks, and as it has been my habit for as far back as I can remember, as wed pass each other Id just say good evening. Its in cognition of their presence, to some degree just a sense of good manners, and very much what I recall doing with my father in younger years when he and I use to go for evening walks. Yet for all those I greeted in passing this evening (perhaps 8 or 9 individuals or couples), not a single one of them responded back. And it has me wondering, whats going on with folks these days? Have we all become so fearful in our regular watching of nightly news and always so much talk of terrorism to the point that our own neighborhoods now seems such a scary place that we dare not even say a passing hello to each other on our streets any more? Whats up with that? Is a fractional second of good manners with even passing strangers on the sidewalk some thing weve become too fearful of doing? Not crowed streets, but just evening walks. Just curious.
