Whats the rationale behind the introduction of a bridge course in - TopicsExpress

Whats the rationale behind the introduction of a bridge course in MBBS for a dental graduate? Is it just to make him (dentist) provide both oral and general health services in rural areas? Or is it a symbolic gesture with no substance (as most of our govt. policies are) to pacify frustrated dentists? Then in that case, are we willing to work in rural areas? Will the government recruit them with decent salary and provide adequate facilities? Wouldnt there be any opposition from the medical fraternity including MCI? What would be the designation given to a dentist if in case he/she completes the bridge course? DCI has also mentioned about curriculum changes at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Are these changes going to better equip a student and make him ready to solve the oral problems plaguing our society even better? A dental graduate is already spending lakhs and lakhs of rupees for completion of his/her course either in the form of donations or fees, so will he be able to afford this novel bridge course idea mooted by DCI? What about the previous experiment on introduction of 5 year BDS course with no internship? These are some of the questions we need to ponder over and DCI should immediately address these issues to the dental fraternity especially the budding dentists and include all the stake holders opinion before submitting the proposals to our health ministry because we dont want to be guinea pigs again. m.thehindu/news/cities/Mangalore/dental-council-proposes-bridge-course-in-mbbs-for-dentists/article6643233.ece/
