Whats the treatment? Babies cant be treated while they are still in the uterus. Treatment starts at some time during the first year. The treatment depends on how severe the condition is. Physiotherapy can help, as can gentle manipulation, plaster casts, special splints and boots. The Ponseti method is growing in popularity. It uses manipulation and casting methods, together with special boots which have a metal bar inside. In some cases which are more severe or where the manipulation, splints and boots dont make improvements, your consultant may recommend surgery. The outcome for most children, even when they have more severe club foot, is usually very good.
