Whats ya think? Im about to post this I think: #neverforget is the hashtag I keep seeing all over social media. As proud as I am to say that we are honoring the lives of those affected but such tragedy, I also am saddened that we remember that only today. 13 years ago, out country, our freedom, and our way of life was changed forever. Panic, fear, chaos were ample. For weeks, America, the land of the free, home of the brave banded together. We united for the greater good, for our own self preservation, and to help our neighbor. We forgot, briefly about race, political party, wealth, and so many other factors that so often divide us; we encouraged each other to pull ourselves up by the boot straps and we believed that we would rise above the attack to our great country. Churches were overwhelmed with attendance, and for a time, Im sure that this country, as a whole, resembled the country we had 150 years ago, or maybe even as recent as 50 years ago. America once again had a conscience, and more importantly, compassion. There was a somber tone that enveloped us all, but a continually building thump of hope coursed thru the veins of our land. We were once again the UNITED States of America. While its important that we #neverforget the selfless sacrifice of our unsung heroes that paid the ultimate price defending, assisting, and trying to save the thousands of victims of such a tragedy. BUT, may we also #neverforget what we became as a country when this happened, a faint glimpse into our past, when people loved, cared, and looked out for each other, when a lock was used for more than keeping an honest man out, and a government that was for the people, more concerned about the protection of its citizens than its elected officials. May we pray for those affected, and continue to pray for America, that she will once again focus her attention where it should be, depend on who she should depend on, to remain the greatest nation on Earth, before its too late. #neverforget
