In my name - This is equivalent to saying on my account, or for my sake. If a man who has money in a bank authorizes us to draw it, we are said to do it in his name. I had my graduation dollars on CD one point five decades, forgetting about it, and was amazed by its unknown growth! If a son authorizes us to apply to his father for aid because we are his friends, we do it in the name of the son, and the favor will be bestowed on us from the regard which the parent has to his son, and through him to all his friends. To ask in Christs name, is to plead his merit and intercession, and to depend upon that plea. The gift of the Spirit is a fruit of Christs mediation, bought by his merit, and received by his intercession. The word used here, signifies an advocate, counselor, monitor, and comforter. He would abide with the disciples to the end of time; his gifts and graces would encourage their hearts. The expressions used here and elsewhere, plainly denote a person, and the office itself includes all the Divine perfections. The gift of the Holy Ghost is bestowed upon the Disciples of Christ, and not on the world. This is the favor God bears to his chosen. As the source of holiness and happiness, the Holy Spirit will abide with every believer forever. Whatever you ask in my name, that will I do, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask me anything in my name, I will do it. And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do. What man would dare to make such a promise? It will be noted, that in order to enjoy the fullness of these glorious promises we must, (1) Believe. They are limited thus in John 14: thirteen The Message (MSG) 11-14 Believe me: I am in my Father and my Father is in me. If you can’t believe that, believe what you see—these works. The person who trusts me will not only do what I’m doing but even greater things, because I, on my way to the Father, am giving you the same work to do that I’ve been doing. You can count on it. From now on, whatever you request along the lines of who I am and what I am doing, I’ll do it. That’s how the Father will be seen for who he is in the Son. I mean it. Whatever you request in this way, I’ll do. . Without faith it is impossible to please God. (2) We must ask in his name, or, in dependence upon the merit and intercession of Christ. (3) As shown elsewhere, we must come with a spirit of complete submission to the Fathers will, feeling that his will is best, and saying in our hearts, Thy will be done Your kingdom come. Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. So He said to them, When you pray, say: Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be your name. Your kingdom come. Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. The best thing about the future is that it comes only one day at a time. If we are together nothing is impossible. If we are divided all will fail. We gain strength, and courage, and confidence by each experience in which we really stop to look fear in the face...we must do that which we think we cannot. The ideals which have lighted my way and time after time have given me new courage to face life cheerfully, have been kindness, beauty, and truth. If ye shall ask me anything in my Name, etc., is, omitting the clause of the former utterance, a solemn repetition of the promise. The only condition being in my Name. Our Lord Christ foresaw that this article would go hard with human reason, and that it would be much assailed by the devil. What ye ask, says he, I will do. I am God, who may do and give all things. I put special emphasis on Christs own power and willingness to receive and answer prayer. Character cannot be developed in ease and quiet. Only through experiences of trial and suffering can the soul be strengthened, vision cleared, ambition inspired and success achieved. The heart of the problem is a problem with the heart. Youre just a prayer away from a change of heart. Finding relief in your problem is fine, but it will not cure the problem. My environment can give me relief from sin and tension, only the Lord can cure it. You can manage your sin, but thats not repentance. If its sin, thats good news! Sin is the simplest thing in the world to deal with. Theres no human remedy for sin. Jesus wants to give you peace. You would think that everyone would leap at the chance to get rid of sin. Not so. They want relief not a cure. Your walk with God does not depend on people, places, things or events. You don’t have a marriage problem, you have a sin problem. I am a victim of my own behavior. Gods children have a limitless supply of the fruit of the Spirit. Biblical counseling is listening to a person long enough until you hear a violation of scripture.
