What’s Your Four-Minute Mile? . We’ve all heard the story of Roger Bannister breaking the four-minute mile and, in the process, doing something that was considered by many scientists to be physically impossible. You may have also heard that six weeks after Bannister ran an ‘impossible’ 3:59.4, John Landy completed the mile in a mind-blowing 3:57.9. And while this might outwardly seem like a tale of physical triumph, for me, the most fascinating story is that, while Landy’s physiology, potential and skill had not changed from six weeks prior, his thinking, expectation and belief had. . And when that happens, the impossible becomes likely. :)
