Be sure to come check out these wonderful machines. Their owners are always glad to talk about them and answer any questions you have about them. It is Part of Hurley WI Heritage Days Celebration. Make the Market one of your stops. We have several new vendors and a variety of new local arts and crafts. Come look them over. You may find something you’ve needed or want right here. Do your Christmas Shopping in July. Its berry time in the area. There are lots of strawberries, and a few raspberries, the blueberries and Black berries are not quite ready. The June berries are almost past their prime, this is probably the last week for picking any of them. I saw lots of people out last weekend picking their own strawberries, and I heard the local freezers were filling up with wonderful freezer Jam. I know I would have a hard time filling a basket or flat with the ripe fruits. I would be too tempted to sample the wares. I just have a small patch close to the house and we only had a small handful. Strawberry Rhubarb Pie is a great favorite to have this time of year. The recipe this week uses fresh strawberries, and freezes well for a treat in the winter. Strawberry Bread 2 cups fresh strawberries (crushed with ½ cup of the sugar) 2 cup sugar 4 eggs 1 ¼ cups vegetable oil 3 cups flour 1 teaspoon salt 1 teaspoon baking soda 1 tablespoon cinnamon 1 cup chopped nuts (walnuts, pecans, hazel nuts) Pre heat oven to 350 degrees, grease and flour 2 9 x 5 inch loaf pans. In a medium bowl, combine berries, oil, and eggs.In a large bowl mix flour and the remaining dry ingredients together. Add the strawberry misture to the dry ingredients. Stir till well blended. Pour into prepared loaf pans. Bake in oven for I hour. Remove when a toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool on a rake then remove from pans. Enjoy a loaf now and freeze one for later or share with a friend.
