What’s in the basement of Mayslake Hall? We get this question - TopicsExpress

What’s in the basement of Mayslake Hall? We get this question quite regularly here at the estate. While it is dominated by such things as furnaces and storage rooms, there are a couple of very interesting features that Mr. Peabody had built into the basement. His original “man-cave” was a large room complete with fireplace and its’ own door to the outside. We like to think that after a day of riding horses, Mr. Peabody and his guests could come into the basement, clean-up, and then relax prior to going upstairs in the more formal part of the mansion. The basement is off limits to the public due to life-safety concerns, but hopefully some of these pictures will give you an idea of what these rooms look like. Most of the fixtures and tile work is original to the building. More basement info will be posted tomorrow. (Photo(s) copyright 2014 by M.R. Traska; all rights reserved)
