Wheelchair etiquette (1) Okay guys- I guess everyone knows not to do the “does he take sugar” thing—y’know - asking someone other than the person themselves – on the assumption that if he/she has any kind of difficulty it follows that this individual will inevitably be incapable of answering any question on their own behalf Mind you I do come across people who haven’t even grasped that one yet But as I use the wheelchair more I become very aware of some really strange behaviour from some people – often people who appear to want to be really helpful--------------- and most people are nice and want to be helpful But think on this—you are walking along taking it easy and someone comes up behind you and “helps” you by simply pushing you along—I don’t think that you would like that So – I will sometimes need your help- I will ask or you might offer and I will tell what I need-------but if I am moving along under my own steam – please don’t just come along and start pushing-------------------------------moan moan grumble grumble
