When Algerians started war of independence against French rule philosopher and writer Jean Paul Sartre supported their cause, even suggested that France should free Algeria. His moral stance created lot of hue and cry among fellow countrymen and women, his critics driven by blind patriotism and petty slogans nationalism declared him a traitor and asked president Charles De Gaule to imprison Sartre. His Reply was “ I can not imprison Sartre, Sartre is France and France cannot be imprisoned.”
