When American and other Allied forces liberated Nazi concentration - TopicsExpress

When American and other Allied forces liberated Nazi concentration camps during World War II, they were stunned by the horrors that greeted them. No amount of military training prepared them for what they saw. There are some veterans who still live among us in the Northeast Kingdom who played a role in liberating these camps. Some of them are still haunted by what they saw so many decades ago. As bad as the camps looked to the liberators, they truly had no way of understanding the full scope of the horrors of what went on in them. However, for Eva Kor she knew firsthand the horrors. With the exception of her identical twin, her entire family perished in the infamous death camp, Auschwitz. Because they were twins, the sisters were subjected to diabolical experiments by Dr. Josef Mengele, also known as the “Angel of Death”. Eva’s story and her decision to forgive Dr. Mengele and all the other Nazis who operated the camps, has been recorded in various documentaries. Eva, who lives in Terre Haute, Indiana, is this Sunday’s guest on the Vermont Voice radio show via phone. She’ll talk about her life at Auschwitz, and the importance of not harboring hatred toward anybody, including people who committed such evil crimes against humanity as Dr. Mengele. However, that doesn’t mean people should forget. Eva is the founder of a Holocaust museum in Indiana, and each year she leads a group of about a hundred people to the concentration camp of her youth to educate them about the horrors that people, who in the name of hate, can perpetrate upon one another.
