When Chris Emery tasted his grandmothers homemade fudge-covered - TopicsExpress

When Chris Emery tasted his grandmothers homemade fudge-covered graham clusters he knew he had a winner on his hands. Edith Baker was passed the candy recipe from her sister Winifred Bergner, and made it to share with her family. In 1996, Emery and high school friend Larry Finnson decided to sell the Clodhoppers from their garage as the Kraves Candy Co. The crunchy treats were popular locally and in 1998, they signed a distribution contract with Wal-Mart. The Kraves factory in Winnipeg once produced 2,500 pounds of Clodhoppers per hour. By 2006, the companys Clodhopper production plant in Winnipeg employed more than 20 employees and sold millions of the candies throughout North America. In 2006, Krave’s Candy sold its assets to Brookside Foods, based in Abbotsford, British Columbia. In October 2012, Brookside Foods confirmed on their Facebook page that they have discontinued making Clodhoppers candy. Chris Emery and Larry Finnson appeared on CBC’s Dragons’ Den in February 2012, where they convinced Arlene Dickinson to invest in their new start up for OMGs Candy, a similar product with diced almonds and toffee bits. Their manufacturing facility is in Winnipeg once again and they have distribution from many retailers, including Shoppers Drug Mart, Loblaws and Rexall. https://youtube/watch?v=CUOx29ohn1E
