When Courage Matters--- The elections are over in Alabama. In a little while, we will know who will become Alabama’s next governor. This is now a matter of counting votes. Regardless of whether Robert Bentley or Parker Griffith wins the governors race, one thing is clear – our network of Facebook friends showed incredible courage on the political battlefield today. I am proud of the fight you waged all day long. I am honored that so many of you put it all on the line today for Alabama’s future. You did not hide behind fake names like some many commentators do on mainstream media blogs. You stood tall like true patriots and warriors. For months, you have expressed your strongly held political views while using your real names. You also fought one of the most powerful members of Alabama’s oligarchy – Robert Bentley. You took on the Bentley political battle after forcing the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals to suspend wife-beating judge Mark Fuller from the federal bench in August. Your drumbeat for Fuller’s resignation forced all of the weak-kneed Alabama politicians to call for Fuller’s resignation. Fuller will never sit as a federal judge again because of your courage and activism. You have demonstrated a level of true grit and determination that nobody in Alabama thought existed anymore. Political commentators are already describing you as a “network of independent voters”. While Republicans and Democrats are busy demonizing each other, nobody dares to demonize you. As we move beyond today’s election, we will stay united to fight the twin evils – incompetence and corruption - that threaten our democracy. I enjoy fighting with warriors like you. Your courage and bravery in the face of ruthless power is truly inspirational.
