When Daniel was an old man, Belshazzar made a feast. In the midst - TopicsExpress

When Daniel was an old man, Belshazzar made a feast. In the midst of the party, where they were worshiping , they were drinking from gold, silver, and brass vessels. Vessels that had been taken from Jerusalem. And they were worshiping false gods of gold, silver, and brass. All at once, a hand wrote on a plaster wall ...the hand wrote the words...Mene, Mene, Tekel, Upharsin. No one could interpret the words, so they sent for Daniel, and Belshazzar told Daniel that if he could interpret the words, he would give him a gold chain to put around his neck and clothe him in scarlet. Daniel told him he would interpret the words, but to keep his gifts. Nebuchadnezzar had been king, he had died and he was followed by Nabonidus, but King Nabonidus was often away in war and left his son, Belshazzar to rule Babylon. The Catholic church, it seems, have picked up some of the Babylonian customs. I saw a Catholic priest (or whatever they call the guy in charge of the church), wearing a scarlet robe and a big gold chain wrapped many times around his neck. I saw him when I went to eat at Captain Ds, and it reminded me of this story from the bible. I once asked a nun, why, at the age of seventeen did she decide to become a nun? She told me that she lived by a convent, and she would see how the nuns were dressed so beautifully, and she wanted to look like that. I am like Loretta Lynn, from a hollow.....cant see what would be so great about dressing like that, but I guess in Babylon, it represented power, wealth, and authority. God had already made one King of Babylon insane because of his pride. I heard Dr. Scott call pride insanity. That nun that I talked with, told me that most of a nuns life they work, but when they are too old to work or not able to work, it can be bad, with nothing to do, they just sit there all day, and go insane. I also asked that nun if I could see her bible, it was a giant red bible. I opened it up and asked her what a verse meant, because I had heard Dr. Scott teach on it, so I wanted to see what she thought. She said that we need an interpreter...I said, No I just want to know what you think it means, and she said, No, we have to have an interpreter. And this was a very smart woman, but she had been taught that I guess that the priest had to interpret.
