When Do You Pull the Trigger? By Connie Michaelis, Marketing - TopicsExpress

When Do You Pull the Trigger? By Connie Michaelis, Marketing Director I just received a letter from the Social Security Agency presenting my options for social security benefits. (Guess I am giving away my age, right?) There is a complex calculation concerning whether you should start at 66 or wait until you are 70 to get your maximum amount. There are websites that actually have calculators to educate you on the best strategy; knowledge is power. Basically it is a wager on how long you will live. I assume the government is wagering too! It does make one thoughtful about what the future will bring. Since the average life expectancy for women is 81, there will be many that never reach that age and others like Edna, who lives at McCrite, is beating the odds by 23 years! Yes she is 104 and going strong. Guessing your own life expectancy is like playing Black Jack, you never know what card is coming up. Some of the conversations we have in the office are almost comical. Recently a wonderful, sharp 97 year-old gentleman joined us for lunch and a tour. He told me that he was definitely planning on moving to retirement living, but he just didn’t think it was time YET. Obviously, he hasn’t been reading actuary charts! On a more serious note, we’ve had many conversations with couples about retirement living, one is eager and ready to go and the other insists it is not time yet. Naturally the ‘caregiving’ spouse is the one who is ready to move. Waiting is a gamble. It is so much better to make the decision and the move when you are healthy and making your own decisions. Pulling the trigger on your move to retirement living should be your choice. Get informed, tour the community and calculate the future. When you have questions about Great Living call the experts at McCrite Plaza 785 267 2960.
