When Extremism Rears Its Ugly Face Every religion has its share - TopicsExpress

When Extremism Rears Its Ugly Face Every religion has its share of extremism. Some takes extremism to its violent edge while some are simply irritating at its worst. I never thought someone from the Christian circle coming from a prominent fellowship would become the new hate object of some netizens (with FB accounts dedicated to him). His posts were not only disrespectful but also indecent, gross and devoid of any grace.. It was so bad that their famous church was bombarded with criticisms and with official queries from media asking if that was their official stand. A leader from that congregation, had to issue a statement to disown the disrespectful post and clarify by stating their official beliefs as regards other faith (I do not know what they will do with the pastor). For me, the worst is a number of people may now believe that our faith really behaves that way and are Catholic-phobic. And we cant blame them either because that Pastors post have been liked and commented several hundred times. It is times like these that one must be reminded that Christianity is about relationship: with God and other people. That Christianity is more than theology but the application of those dear teachings to real life. That Christianity is not about having a spiritual title but living as a spiritual life marked by grace, love and compassion. That Christianity is not about putting down other beliefs but building up yours with ones life and testimony. It is also time to move on. Pope Francis taught us a lot of good things (no need to debate of doctrine, please because the differences are a given). That humility is not only admired but loved by people. That compassion and mercy are powerful words that resonate with the congregation. Let us go down from our theological tower and be more relevant in the communities we are in. That spirituality is vibrant in the country and thats good news in sharing the good news. Peace and blessings to all!
