When Hobbs teachers reported back to work on Monday they encountered some old faces in new positions – as well as some brand new faces. Andi Engle is the new principal at Will Rogers Elementary School – replacing Rosa Kahoe who resigned the post last week. Engle, who most recently was an assistant principal at Highland, first went to work for HMS in 2006 as a College Lane fourth-grade teacher and soon moved to Houston where she taught language arts. Engle was eventually named language arts coordinator for the district prior to her promotion last year to Highland Middle School assistant principal. Stepping into Engle’s assistant principal position at Highland is Joey Morin, who has taught science at the school for 13 years. He first went to work for Hobbs more than 20 years ago as a Heizer science teacher. Speaking of Heizer, Greg Rockhold is that school’s new assistant principal. He has spent more than 18 years in administration in several states including Alaska and Colorado. He comes to Hobbs from his most recent job as an elementary school principal in Tennessee. In the meantime, Lana Weldy has moved to an assistant principal post left vacant by a retirement at Hobbs High School. She is in her 16th year of working for HMS after teaching language arts at Houston and the Freshman High School. She also spent two years as an FHS assistant principal. Diana Roper, a FHS math teacher, has been promoted to the assistant principal job left vacant by Weldy’s departure. She began her career 23 years ago at Heizer and moved with the school when it was transformed into the Freshman High School several years ago.
