When I am quiet here, its because I am being loud somewhere else. This weekend I was loud in Georgia. I spoke at a respite weekend for a group of women who are brave and strong and my heroes. They are raising children on the autism spectrum, and it is very hard. They told me it would be a spa weekend, and I thought, “That’s nice.” Then I showed up and it was a SPA WEEKEND. They had stylists giving free haircuts and manicurists doing manicures and a masseuse FOR THE ATLANTA FALCONS giving free massages, because her family has been touched by Asperger’s, and we carry each other. I listened to stories about children who came to school screaming and are now speaking. About children who, after some time with an ABA therapist and an iPad, showed everyone that they could READ. I didn’t write anything while I was there, because it seemed too tender and precious. I only watched and listened. Then I signed some books at a church where we used to worship and work. A church that we loved and that loved us well. I listened to moms, dads, aunts, grandmothers, and teachers tell me about the women that my books were going to. I wrote notes in books going to teachers, church-planters, and to some brave young ladies who lost their mother this year. I cried and prayed and prayed and cried because I didn’t know what else to do. I also smiled and hugged and took selfies and said “thank you” and went home with all the feelings. This morning I recorded a podcast with the fun and adorable Jamie Ivey that I’ll share with you in a few weeks. And I got to see the new “You are Enough” shirts from walk in love. that I’ll tell you more about tomorrow. I just finished driving ONE HUNDRED HOURS home. Or eight. It was at night with three kids and no iPod, so that’s basically the same thing. I deserve a trophy. I will accept a lemon bar and a cup of tea. Thanks for letting me be loud in Georgia this weekend. I’ll leave you with my new favorite Youtube video, which represents exactly how I’m feeling after my drive. *blink, blink*
