When I arrived at one of the villages in Sierra Leone last year, - TopicsExpress

When I arrived at one of the villages in Sierra Leone last year, it had just buried 23 people who had died of cholera. It was clear then — and heartbreakingly, devastatingly clear now -- that the rural areas of that beautiful but war-ravaged nation were entirely unprepared for a widespread health crisis. The ebola outbreak has hit the nation, and its neighbor Liberia, like a plague. My thoughts are increasingly with them, as I ask — what can I do to help? Heres what I wrote when I returned. I had no idea they were about to visited by the bleak hand of death so soon.
