When I attend the Cumann na mBan 100th Anniversary Celebration on - TopicsExpress

When I attend the Cumann na mBan 100th Anniversary Celebration on Wednesday night I will remember in particular one of the founders of that great body of radical women, Louise Gavan Duffy, who was the founder and principal of the first school I went to, Scoil Bhríde in Earlsfort Terrace. She was a collaborator in education (and in revolution) with Patrick Pearse and created Scoil Bhríde as the girls equivalent of St Endas using the same principles of finding and fostering the particular talents of each child. Boys could attend up to first communion. It is the only school I attended that I have good memories of. As if it wasnt enough good fortune to have Miss Gavan Duffy start me in education, my mothers doctor when I was born was that other great revolutionary woman, and Louises comrade, Dr Kathleen Lynn. I dont need to win the Lotto - that start in life is enough good fortune for any citizen to expect. Im looking forward to hearing Liz Gillis speak on the history of Cumann na mBan. anphoblacht/contents/23848#.UzhlIiid_gA.facebook
