When I awoke this morning, all I was aware of was that it was HELLA-COLD outside (I HATE the cold!) - then, as Yvonne flips on the Today Show, I see that today would have been Elvis 80th birthday. Holy Hound Dog! (I am SO bad with remembering dates & anniversaries!) So I went to good ol YouBoob to find an Elvis Pretzel clip of mein very own to post. And there were SO many good ones to choose from! I almost picked one of the Ed Sullivan clips that was dated October 28, 1956 (my Ol Mans birthday!) - in fact ANY of the Sullivan Show clips wouldve worked. The electricity of those moments is still evident, nearly 60 years later. But the clip I settled on has a much more personal significance to me: its a song that was one of the first I ever jammed with, with my neighborhood buddies Jay & Richard, WAY back in the old days in Upper Nyack. It was the very first record I bought when I went away to college (note, Yvonne: not The Beatles, not The Ramones - or even Buddy Holly or Chuck!). I still have that record & I still have that Techniques turntable that my cousin, Ross gave to me, all those years ago! (I figured that if yer gonna listen to old time rock n roll - you may as well listen to it the way it originally came out - I got the CD a few years later.........) Whats even cooler is the video that he did for the tune - long before MTV, E.P. did this pretty impressive choreographed number for the movie of the same name - THIS was the genesis of the modern rock music video! So, without any further delay, here it is - the tune that started it all for me (& dedicated to Jay, Richie, his parents who were and still are BIG Elvis fans, Yvonne, my parents - who saw him at my Aunt Roses house on Ed Sullivan when they were just dating, Ross, Yvonnes Mom, Luz - whos also a big fan - and, of course, the King himself!): Jailhouse Rock!!!!!!!!! youtube/watch?v=gj0Rz-uP4Mk
