When I brought Kali to UVA ER a week ago I was hoping she would get the necessary medications and return home the same night. However, we were told her blood counts were at zero, and that she must be admitted. She received two units of red blood and a unit of platelets. Next our prayer was that she could be discharged in time to play her part in journey through Bethlehem. As her counts (ANC - total white blood cells) were on zero Sunday, at 30 Monday, at 10 Tues, and then 0 again Wed, we realized she will not make that. So weve been hoping Kalis counts rebound and shes home for Christmas. Yesterday her ANC was 90 but this morning its back to 70. Shes getting 2 units of blood today. The past couple days Ive been contemplating on what really is important here . . . Making time for Walk through Bethlehem at CCA was good for the soul, stirring thoughts on the sacrifice Jesus made to come to earth as a baby. Meeting up with other families here at UVA, sharing about our journey, talking about the things that really matter . . . Reading of children who even now are gaining their angel wings, leaving their loved ones behind . . . It all brings me to this conclusion . . . To love the Lord with our heart, soul, and mind, and to love our neighbors as ourselves, this is what matters. So this Christmas we have a new set of neighbors here at UVA. They are wonderful friends for us, along with a huge network of friends and family we had already! We are incredibly blessed. Our cups are full and running over. This Christmas we will worship the KING whether we are home or at UVA.
