When I do freelance Videography/Photography its not because I have to its because I want to! Ive always said if I dont become famous I want to help others become famous. I do music videos for local artists not for the money (trust me) but to help local artists rise to the top! Unfortunately I have been selling myself extremely short and several people owe me money, the only way to avoid these kinds of things for the future is to raise my prices and work with serious artists, Im aware that not everyone can afford $500 for a music video for a full day session. but with me having a kid and bills I can no longer do anything for cheap. Im at the point where Id rather work with artists who are super serious about their craft and see the investment worth while, I have spent way over $1500 for all my equipment over time and its about time I start putting it to use with people who are passionate about what they do. When you pay a videographer or photographer for a music video or a wedding you dont pay them just to record/ snap shots then its done. You are paying for their time spent working for you, their travel expenses, the editing of your project which can take several hours, possibly rented equipment being used and several other parts that go into creating quality work. I know Im a good director/ videographer and Im tired of being underpaid, partially because Ive allowed myself to be. There are too many simple minded videographers / photographers who charge thousands of dollars for simple work while I have been sacrificing for pocket change! So anyways, new mind set new prices, if you are a videographer / photographer who feels the same way feel free to share this.
