When I first arrived in Rongjiang three weeks ago,the apartment - TopicsExpress

When I first arrived in Rongjiang three weeks ago,the apartment was a mess. It was nothing like what was promised to me. I took the initiative to spend a few dollars, and now, it looks great (I am working on being reinbursed). Just needs a splash of color and some plants here and there... I do not pay rent, utilities, and food can be had at the schools cafeteria at no cost (pretty good, too). The teachers, however, have taken me out to eat almost every night... a big saving on my grocery bill. I am paid 3 times more than the average Chinese teacher in cash. I do need to report income to US IRS, but because its overseas employment, no tax to be paid until I earn above a certain amount of money. The average cost of living in China is about $500 USD/month. This is why many Americans are relocating here. In Beijing, there are over 70,000 Americans living/working on the mainland.Heres a short video of my three bedroom apartment, 2 bathroom, kitchen, balcony... that I am proud to have transformed into a happy space... shared with a room mate. If I decide to stay longer, I will rent my own private apartment (about 1,000-2000RMB or $165/$250month). If you go to Youtube: ESL Teacher Apartments, you will see a wide range of living conditions, some good, some not so good. Its all in what you want to do! I love teaching here...easy, and no more than 20 hours a week!
