When I first came into the coaching world, I was taught and modeled to have serious boundaries with clients. The message was received loud and clear that there was no room for relating outside of the coaching container. That you had to keep yourself apart from those you serve. It always felt icky to me. So today (as I impulsively invited a beloved client to come stay in my home) it occurred to me how Ive roomed with clients at events (so much fun Cristina Laskar!!!), had them over to dinner with my family, and would happily have them all for a giant sleepover. Screw boundaries. My experience is that when you let go of people taking advantage of you and your time... they dont. And you are simply in authentic relationship. xo
