When I first came to Facebook, I didnt know how to FB-react to - TopicsExpress

When I first came to Facebook, I didnt know how to FB-react to posts about deaths. I judged people who liked R.I.P updates. After more than four years on this planet, I remain equally uncertain about my online reaction to updates about the dead. The mourner is often one who is saying how precious the departed was. The words of affection, of remembrance, they are evidence of the first journeys that those who are left behind are redrawing in relation to those who have just left. Now, I often find myself liking these posts. I am still not sure why I do that. Perhaps what I like is the overwhelming presence of one person in another, one that has been made visible to us only now, the survival of love in spite of the withdrawal of the loved. Perhaps it is death, more than life, that brings out the lover in us, I dont know. What I do know is returning from these posts like one who has watched an eclipse - exhausted and hopeful, reassured that this cannot be the end.
