When I first met Jacqueline Benn-Schuppe I realized that this woman had a sense of style which was quite classic. In time I learnt that she has always been heavily into vintage fashion. Gracing many entertainment events she was often approached to pose for magazines or photographers. Her previous work with Victor Luna and Avery Designs provided her with the hands on knowledge that she needed to venture into the world of fashion styling. Upon returning to Barbados she made the bold decision to launch her own fashion line LING LING. Last night as I watched the debut of this line I smiled as I observed Jacqueline was able to take the best bits of the past and give them a contemporary yet modern feel. As the models graced the runway I was taken back the era of Greta Garbo, Audrey Hepburn and Grace Kelly. I saw the sweethearts of old Hollywood re-emerging through fashion. The use of white cotton and denim was a smart choice. Through her designs Jacqueline showed that any fabric can be used to create elegant stylish wear, The glam was added through the pearls, gloves, fascinators and Christian Louboutin shoes worn by some of the models. What made these clothes better than a trip to the vintage store, of course, was the perfect finished quality. A denim glove-leather flare dress inset with pleats and slits was undeniably gorgeous, but it retained an easy, offhand quality that made it desirable. The clothing gives the viewer a really good feeling about life and its effervescence. Fashion should be fun, stylish and memorable. This is what Jacqueline Benn-Schuppe accommoplished last night. Whats next for Ling ling? I am thinking Caribbean, New York , and London Fashion Week. I understand a distribution deal in in the works already. Who said life on the island wasnt exciting? WELL DONE JACQUELINE!
