When I first moved to Vallejo, California in August of 1959, my mother and I lived with her Aunt Lucille and Uncle Ed Baxter at their house on Grant Street. I attended Grant School kindergarten (morning session) and “Miss Robbie” Henderson “watched” me after school until my mother got off from work….Mr. Henderson painstakingly taught me how to tie my own shoes real quick, after watching me “tie knots in the strings, like I was strange”….lol….although I didn’t know it,…..I was being surrounded by expressions of love and caring…. Some people love you; they say it to you at infrequent times, to “let you know” that they are “on board” with your generally expressed hopes, plans, and dreams. Some other people, in addition to loving you, also express to you that they care about you; “caring” about someone entails and includes, along with the “state of being” of loving someone, the additional expression of bringing that ethereal and spiritual “loving” essence into the world of actions and deeds. In that sense of expression, “caring about” someone includes a subjective level of commitment of direct physical and emotional involvement towards active encouragement of the expressed hopes, plans, and dreams of the “loved one”. Caring FOR someone is a selfless exchange of love energy imparted towards someone cared about. Caring FOR someone requires the altruistic acceptance and understanding that the cared about loved one is, for whatever reason, either temporarily or permanently incapable of caring about their own expressed hopes, plans, and dreams.
