When I first started with the NTFB, Grant Ashford and others would remember this, Dennis Baker was our instructor and a great one at that. I remember some training with two hook ladders which were still in use but not long off being permanently retired from service. We used these in the same way as shown in the photos. The Merriweather Wheeled Escape similar to the wheeled ladder in the photos was still in service on the Dennis Fire Appliance at Daly St and we drilled intensely on this ladder till we got proficient with it. Great days, a bit of risk but hey, thats our job.
