When I found out Bill Graham was opening in NYC, I got on the train and went on down to 2nd Ave and 6th Street and found Mr. Graham up on a ladder with a cardboard box full of lightbulbs, changing out the marquee lamps. I steadied the ladder and started passing up the bulbs, trying to figure out something to say to this famously crabby genius. This went on until we had done the south side of the marquee. I wound up showing Bill some of my Rock pix and he bought a picture of Jeff Beck I took at the Anderson Theatre down the block. That picture was framed and hung in the Fillmore East lobby, so proud, I. When the final show tix were GIVEN out, Judy and I got two pair, I was working for J.Geils and we got another pair from friends. What a night to remember, Hells Angels bartenders and an endless river of beer flowing, red roses and memorial posters and playbills on every seat. Honored and happy to have been there for those too few great years. Thanks, Bill and Company. =NYC=
